http://whc.unesco.org/en/list/260

It is located in the central eastern region of Ecuador, covering four provinces: Tungurahua, Chimborazo, Cañar and Morona Santiago. Politically, most of the territory is in Morona Santiago. With its outstanding natural beauty and two active volcanoes, the park illustrates the entire spectrum of ecosystems, ranging from rainforests to glaciers, with dramatic contrasts between snow-capped peaks and plains forests.

In one thousand nine hundred and eighty-three, UNESCO declared the Sangay National Park as a Natural Heritage of Humanity, due to its great biological, ecological and cultural importance.

The Sangay National Park meets four criteria of its category which are:

http://whc.unesco.org/en/list/260

Criterion (seven): Contains one of the most complex series of ecological habitats in the world. With an altitudinal range that extends from nine hundred to five thousand three hundred nineteen meters above sea level, the park includes three volcanoes: Tungurahua (five thousand sixteen meters), Sangay (five thousand two hundred thirty meters) and Altar (five thousand three hundred nineteen meters).

Criterion (eight): Sangay, a perfect cone-shaped volcano, is notable worldwide for its long period of continuous activity. The area exhibits rugged topography with deep, steep valleys, abundant cliffs, and many jagged rocky peaks.

Criterion (nine): The presence of an active volcano means that primary succession is a continuous process that influences the species composition in a number of special ecosystems in the park, including rain forest, cloud forest, grasslands, and moorlands.

Criterion (ten): The natural vegetation has been well preserved and covers about eighty- four percentage of the entire park. With its different ecosystems, the park has the best and least disturbed set of native species in the region. It is also one of the three protected areas with the largest spectacled bear population, classified as vulnerable.

The Sangay National Park has a high tourist potential, already recognized inside and outside of Ecuador. Its vast extension offers not only an extraordinary scenic attraction, but also a high geological, volcanic, fauna, floricultural interest, as an area of biodiversity, and even in the archaeological and cultural fields.

Its landscapes offer surprising contrasts between snowy peaks and plain jungles. On the other hand, its isolation facilitates the protection of the endangered species that populate it, such as the mountain tapir and the Andes condor.

Visiting the Sangay National Park is very beautiful in which you can enjoy the peace that you were looking for with your family or friends, this beautiful place has a lot of vegetation and especially many animals that you have never seen in your life. Thanks a lot. Until next time.
